A fitting word of the day from Dictionary.com:
Sentence: If we do not learn the lessons of history and choose a radically different path forward, we may lose our last chance at creating a truly inclusive, egalitarian democracy.
MICHELLE ALEXANDER, "AMERICA, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE," NEW YORK TIMES, JUNE 8, 2020
Yesterday I was listening to a segment on NPR regarding appointment of judges in the U.S. With this current administration, aided primarily by the senate majority leader, more than 200 ultra-conservative life-term judges in the age range of 30-40 have been appointed thus far. Most likely in the 4+ more months until election there will be far more. Contrast this to the Obama era where approximately 84 judges were appointed due to intentional blocking from this infamous majority leader. Given the glaring disparity between the flavor/bent of the bench and the fight for changes sweeping this nation, I wonder how this is going to work, what’s going to happen, and how the systemic issues of inequality are going to transform into egalitarianism.
And for today, the sun is shining, it’s a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky, and I celebrate my innate freedom to think, feel, and be!
